Flixya & Metacafe - Perfect Companions?
DATE: 07/19/2007 / MOOD: other

I have been making & uploading videos to first google video & shortly after youtube for over a year now. During that time I created over 100 original videos. many were just experiments that I pulled shortly after due to bad reviews, poor views or excessive copyright issues. I have about 50 still online.

It was a fun process learning video editting. The reason I kept at it was that I felt that if I could create some decent content then it might create a snow abll effect. I was wooed by the promises that both Googlevideo & youtube made, saying that they would someday start paying people for thier content. Both compaies let me down by welching on the promises. When I first started with google video they even had a section that when you uploaded the video that you could set a price for your video and they said that although it wasnt working yet that soon the average Joe would be able to sell videos. I thought that sounded great. Never happened. Then they bought youtube. When that happened rumers went around that they would start to share the ad proceeds with the video creators. Never happened. (actually I guess it did, but only for the superstars like lonelygirl15 and the like) But never happened for me anyways.

To date I have had about 350,000 views on my videos all combined. not great, but not bad, as I was just learning etc. I am actually quite happy with that number for now. But a couple months ago I started to feel that those views had more or less gone to waste. Youtube was starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth after what I feel are broken promises. Anyways so I started looking at other options once again. I went back to Metacafe and had another look. to my suprise they seem to have a relativly thriving community. Not near as large as youtube, but not bad. AND THEY PAY! Now they only pay for original content, that has no copyright issues, so I went to work and removed soundtracks etc and replaced with public domain music and started uploading there. Alas the videos that I have that fit into that criteria are kinda lame but its a start. And has lead to a plan for me.

Anyways back to the title of this article, I think that Flixya & Metacafe make perfect companions because it is kind of killing 2 birds with one stone. Get paid for the video views from metacafe (20,000 pays $100, and $5 every 1000 after that) and get ad revenue from flixya/google interface. One of my videos has about 8500 views after a month so that about $50. Not bad so far from a site that I hardly noticed until recently.

I have a few other plans that I am going to incorporate soon on this quest to make video money online :)

Just subscribe to this Flixya blog, and I will keep you updated on the progress.

Feel free to post suggestions, observations and comments. Also if you have a video on Metacafe in thier producer awards send me the link, and I will have a look. Every view counts :)

Peace.

Using Video with Ebay

Using Video with Ebay

Observations by Peppersmoke

I have been selling on ebay for almost 4 years. Mostly I sell used items I find at garage sales and from the newspaper. Determining the value of items was one of the biggest learning curves, as I now realize the treasures that I just passed by for years.

Anyways, thats for another story. What I would like to talk about is using video in ebay auctions. I have found that using video in my auctions has increased the over all selling prices of unique items greatly. Sometimes by 100% or more!

The best way is to film your item, and try to use a little humor with what you are saying about the item, or just use a fitting music.

Some examples are: I sold a vintage skateboard that I bought for $3 for $137. I filmed the skateboard from all angles. What I used for music was that cheap sounding music i took from a cheesy 70s porn movie, complete with orgasmic moans. lol. (I more or less kept it clean enough though, as not to cause problems with complaints) My way of thinking was that the only people that would buy such an item as a collectible skateboard  was going to be young men, and figured they would get a kick out of the music. I was right! Worked like a charm.

another example was the Titanic model i purchased for $5 at a garage sale. It was still a complete unassembled kit. There were a few other sellers with the same kit, and the average selling price was about $40. I filmed the kit, all the pieces and the box & instructions slowly panning over the items. For music I used the music from the movie "Titanic" you know the love theme 'My heart will go on" It is a nice song, that a person finds themself almost singing if you are in the right mood. I set a buy it now price for the model kit at $69.99. It took less then 1 day and the kit was sold! and for $30 more then the average selling price of other sellers! I am fairly confident that it was the video that helped pull it off :)

Well I hope this advice gives you some ideas & helps you.

Have fun making more money.

Flixya
DATE: 07/18/2007 / MOOD: happy

Flixya.com started as a video sharing site that allowed you to submit video embed code, and your adsence, & they would show it 50% of the time. I joined about 8 months ago.

It made me a few dollars here & there so I have been quite happy with them. About a month ago they totally revamped the site, and now they allow photo upload and blogging, as well they give you 100% of the adsense views. Bonus!

It seems to me that the site is now being used alot more, and is finally starting to turn into a community. I guess only time will tell if they can start producing some bigger numbers but I am happy so far.

They also have a great tool that works with firefox to make submitting video links super fast!

Here is my account if u want to check it out:
