About Captain Kidd
DATE: 07/02/2007 / MOOD: none

As you can tell, I always seem to have my nose stuck in a book and this morning I was reading about Captain Kidd.

Apparently there is a legend still floating around that believes that he has buried treasure on an island in the Connecticut River...which leads me to wonder about those metal detectors that are available. Has anyone ever played around with one and if so, what treasure did you unearth??

Sounds like a great way to keep the kids busy this summer!

Any Civil War Enthusiasts??
DATE: 07/02/2007 / MOOD: none

Just finished posting to Southern Byways...

Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park

Apparently, it's the oldest, largest and most visited park in the nation. And this is hard to believe, but 34,000 men were lost in two days in 1863!

The Secret to Getting Ahead
DATE: 07/02/2007 / MOOD: in love

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one!

Mark Twain

Makes perfect sense even if it does seem a bit daunting. Did you know that this idea was turned into a book?? It was called WishCraft and it took individuals and then asked them if they had the choice, what would they do with their lives? Some wanted simple things, and others wanted  something as lofty as becoming (in one case) a doctor. You can imagine how daunting that would be, but the book showed all of the steps that would be needed to get there. Suddenly it didn't seem so unattainable. It was all about breaking the overwhelming tasks into bitesized ones!

The only thing that I didn't like was the title of the book. The topic had nothing to do with wishing and everything to do with making things happen! Most people give up way too quickly!!

I have adsense sprinkled across lots of sites, but the last few days I have noticed an increase in how much I am making, but can't account for. Since I haven't found a way to track these blog entries, I'm thinking that it's coming from here. So, start writing blog entries and see if it works for you too!

Wouldn't it be great if it's just this easy?? :)

Sometimes a Little Wine
DATE: 07/02/2007 / MOOD: none

Wine and Cheese Invitation

Sometimes a little wine is all you need. A night out on the town isn't a bad idea either now that I think about it!

As we get older, we stop playing. So, here's an easy question... what did you do this week that was just for fun??

This Morning's Gardening Quote
DATE: 07/02/2007 / MOOD: in love

Gardens are not made by singing, "Oh how beautiful", and sitting in the shade.  Rudyard Kipling

Unfortunately, I have been doing that way too much lately. Weeding in on the table for this morning!

When Will I Be Old?
DATE: 07/01/2007 / MOOD: in love

There's nothing worse than being an aging young person. Richard Pryor

And I think that I have seen a lot of those young people. They decide that because they have gotten to a certain age... that they must be old. That's exactly how I felt when I hit my 30th birthday! Now it really doesn't matter. Regardless of how old you become year after year, you don't feel anything different!!

Your Complexion... :) or :(
DATE: 07/01/2007 / MOOD: in love

*Did You Know

Here is something interesting... the skin can make new cells twice as fast when you are asleep.

I have had two awfully late nights this past week, so if my complexion is looking kind of "muddy", I have no one but myself to blame. Tonight, I'm going to bed the minute it's dark enough!!

Now if I could only go back to my university days. I would have had the skin of a 30 year old if only I had gone to bed at a reasonable hour!!

Hot Dogs that Look Like Spiders
DATE: 07/01/2007 / MOOD: in love

A friend that has long since moved away used to do this all the time. She would slash the hot dog in eight places and then put it on a stick over the coals of a fire. As it cooked, it curled looking just like a spider. Not sure if this is a lost art or what!!

Anyone have any better directions than that?? I can remember that my kids thought that it was really cool! Now I wish I had written down EXACTLY how she slashed the hot dogs. Someday, I just might have grandchildren to impress! ;)
