Not long ago while reading my emails I came across this one that started out with "Let the countdown begin! In five days, on Monday September 17, 2007, after 80 years, 5 months and a few days, secrecy in adoption will end for adopted adults and birth parents in Ontario! There was so much hope and excitement and yes apprehension to this news. I have to admit, being adopted myself, I have always wondered my heritage. I did not have the best adoptive parents, I am sorry to say and I have always felt like I didn't know where I belonged. My standard joke by the way is I was not born...I was hatched. It covers that pain and frustration. I started to follow the news everyday, being infected with hope and maybe a way to get answers, not only for me, but for my daughters and grandson. Well it ended with this judgment: Yesterday Judge Belobaba published his decision regarding the Adoption Information Disclosure Act. He found that it was unconstitutional for the government to release information to adoptees and birth parents without providing them with some means of vetoing its release. What I found like so many others, that because 4 people were afraid..angered whatever their reason and thus created this judgment, many people are now back to where they started, including myself...who am I and where do I come from! I would urge that all Canadians indeed the global community, help with this very important issue. Just so you know...I fully concur that all birth parents and children should have some kind of counseling if they decide to meet and be able to say no on their own volition if they make that choice not to have contact. The key here is that we are all individuals and as such we have rights to say on our own...Aye or Nye. Since when did a government have this right to hold 100's, 1000's hostage? This is just my take on this, what is yours? Peace and Light to you Diane http::// /marketingsearchnews.com
